OKC’s big 3 struggle in 4th quarter … again

Oklahoma City’s big three shot 0-for-14 in the fourth quarter of Game 2, and it’s safe to say the struggles continued on Saturday in Utah. The trio of Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony combined to shoot 3-for-7, and Westbrook didn’t attempt a shot in the fourth quarter. In this series, rookie Donovan Mitchell is outscoring Westbrook 27-10 in fourth quarters.

Rubio steals the show

Ricky Rubio has always been known for his pass-first mentality, but Saturday he was locked in and making plays throughout the game. Rubio poured in 26 points to go with 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Although Rubio recorded a triple double, the play of the game happened at the end of the third quarter, when he beat the buzzer and knocked down a big-time 3-point shot. This shot carried Utah’s momentum into the fourth, and it eventually won.

Trouble for Thunder?

OKC is down 2-1 in this best of seven series with still another game to play in Utah. With this Jazz team living up to the hype and competing at its top level, the Thunder could have an early exit. After the Game 3 loss, a reporter in the postgame press conference asked Westbrook about Rubio’s big night, and he claimed in Game 4, he will “shut that s— off next game.” Expect a locked and loaded Westbrook in a big-time Game 4 that has a lot on the line.
