Mercer has been getting nods at shortstop this season for the Pirates. His best game came against the Reds when Mercer went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Mercer has had an above-average start to the season. The Pirates have quickly bounced back from an atrocious 2017 campaign to win eight of their previous 12 games.

Garrett Williams, pitcher, Richmond Flying Squirrels (EAS)

Double-A affiliate of San Fransisco Giants

Williams earned his first and only start of the season so far in a 5-2 victory against Hartford. In five innings, Williams gave up only two hits, which led to two earned runs for Hartford. He added six strikeouts to the game. Williams will pitch next on Sunday against Reading.

Donnie Walton, shortstop, Modesto Nuts (CAL)

Class A Advanced affiliate of Seattle Mariners

Walton has had a great start to his third season in the minors. He is  batting .370 through seven games. In those games, Walton added two RBIs and a home run. His biggest game of the season was when he went 4-for-5 against Lancaster. The Nuts are last in the California League with a record of 2-5, though. Walton and the Nuts are playing in a weekend series against the Visalia Rawhide, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
