After two months, the Champions League’s break is finally over. The round of 16 begins this Tuesday, featuring some of the best talent European soccer has to offer.
Tottenham vs. Juventus
Tottenham will travel to Italy on Tuesday to face one of its toughest opponents yet this season. The Spurs surprised everyone in the group stage after topping their group, which included Borussia Dortmund and defending champion Real Madrid. Harry Kane and company will need to be in top form, as Juventus hasn’t conceded a single goal in 2018.
Manchester City vs FC Basel
The other matchup on Tuesday will feature Group A runner-up Basel hosting Manchester City, the soon-to-be champion of England. Pep Guardiola leads Manchester City, which has torched the Premier League and is set on winning its first Champions League trophy. The Swiss underdogs will need to find a way to stop the highest-scoring team in Europe. Not all hope is lost for Basel,as it defeated City’s neighbor, Manchester United, 1-0 earlier in the group stage.
Liverpool vs Porto
Liverpool will be the third English team playing this week when it faces Porto on Wednesday in Portugal. The Reds will be keen to advance, as they have not reached the quarter-finals in nearly a decade. The odds are stacked against the Portuguese side, which has faced Liverpool four times and is yet to get a victory.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Madrid
Without a doubt, this will be the most intriguing matchup the round of 16 has to offer. PSG visits the Bernabeu this Wednesday to face the defending champions. All eyes will be on Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo, two of the most expensive and talented players the world has to offer. Although Real Madrid has had its struggles this season, Ronaldo is coming off a perfect hat-trick against Real Sociedad and is as dangerous as ever. Neymar and company have been scoring machines after setting a record of 25 goals in the group stage.
