Real Madrid knocked out of Copa del Rey

Los Blancos were stunned this Wednesday in Madrid when Leganes defeated them 2-1 at home. The final score on aggregate ended 2-2 with Leganes advancing to the semifinals on away goals. Despite winning back-to-back Champions League titles, this marks the third year in a row Real Madrid has been knocked out of Copa del Rey before the semifinals. Leganes will play Sevilla in the semifinal Wednesday.

Sane out for possibly a month

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane could potentially miss all of February because of an ankle injury. Sane, who is from Germany, suffered the injury after a brutal horror tackle in an FA Cup match against Cardiff City on Sunday.

Joe Bennett, the defender responsible for the injury, issued an apology to Sane via Twitter.

“Just want to apologise to Leroy Sane for my tackle today,” said Bennett in the tweet. “I tried to stop the counter attack and completely mistimed my attempt.”

Manchester City will have to adjust in his absence with key games in the Champions League in early February.
