Baylor vs Kansas State
The Kansas State Wildcats defeated the Baylor Bears 33-20 to keep Baylor winless. K-State quarterback Jesse Ertz emerged as a top player for the struggling Wildcats. K-State outrushed Baylor 225-85 with the Wildcats running back, Alex Barnes, rushing for 80 yards. Kansas State will travel to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns on Saturday.
Although having more total yards, turnovers were the reason Baylor could not find its footing. Bears’ quarterback Zach Smith led the game with 291 yards, a touchdown and an interception. For the first time since 1978, the Bears are 0-5. Baylor will go in its bye week to regroup before taking on Oklahoma State on Oct. 14.
Iowa State Cyclones vs Texas Longhorns
After vast improvement through the first three, Iowa State hit a major road block Thursday night in Ames against the Texas Longhorns. The Cyclones fell 17-7 in a game that was hard on the eyes to watch.
Texas’ defense was the lone bright spot of the game, allowing only 256 total yards. It allowed only 10 yards rushing to the Cyclones and intercepted Cyclones’ quarterback Jacob Park three times.
Shane Beuchele got the nod at quarterback for Texas, finishing the night 19-of-26 for 171 yards and one touchdown. Chris Warren led the ground attack for the Longhorns, racking up 44 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown.
Things will only get tougher for Iowa State as it travels to face Oklahoma next Saturday.
