One thing has become an anomaly for the TCU Horned Frogs in the Gary Patterson era: losing seasons. After a disappointing 2016 season, in which they finished just 4-8, expect the Horned Frogs to bounce back into contention for the Big 12 title this season.

TCU is one of the most experienced teams in the country, returning 17 starters from last year’s squad, including nine of its top 10 receivers. The Horned Frogs will also trot out four seniors to start the opening game on the offensive line.

Much of the Horned Frogs’ success will depend on senior quarterback Kenny Hill. Hill, a former Texas A&M quarterback, sent Horned Frog fans on a roller coaster ride last season to the tune of 3,208 yards, which he complimented with 13 interceptions.

After a less-than-stellar year, in which it allowed 28.0 points per game and 427 yards per game, TCU will look to return to a typical Patterson-lead defense this season. Leading the charge on the defensive side will be Ty Summers Jr. and Travin Howard Sr., both preseason All-Big 12 selections, per Phil Steele.

One of the biggest obstacles in the Horned Frogs’ way is their schedule. They have to travel to Arkansas in their non-conference schedule, and then to Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Oklahoma in conference play. For Patterson’s squad to win a Big 12 title, TCU is going to have to earn it.
