San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner was placed on the disabled list with bruised ribs and a sprained AC joint in his pitching shoulder. Bumgarner was injured after crashing his dirt bike on his day off in Denver on Thursday. There is no timetable set for his return, but the Giants are hoping sooner rather than later.
Twins’ Sano given one-game suspension
Minnesota Twins third basemen Miguel Sano was suspended one game by the MLB for his “aggressive actions” in the Twins and Tigers bench-clearing brawl Saturday. Sano appeared to have punched Tigers catcher James McCann in the facemask after McCann put his mitt in Sano’s face. Twins general manager Thad Levine said the organization fully supports Sano’s decision to appeal his suspension.
Rockies take first place in NL
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Washington Nationals 8-4 on Monday night. The win pushes the Rockies record to 14-6 and places them in sole possession of NL’s best record.
Brewers’ Thames hot bat gets hotter
Brewers first baseman Eric Thames hit two homeruns in an 11-7 victory against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. The two homers increased Thames major-league total to 10 on the season. Thames also tied the Brewers’ franchise record with 10 homeruns in April, with seven of the 10 coming against the Reds in five games.
