After months of debate, the NHL announced Monday it will not be sending players to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The NHL’s decision came with backlash from players such as Alexander Ovechkin, who still plans on playing for Russia in the Olympics.

 

Matthews breaks rookie goal record

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews set a new American-born rookie goal record with his 39th goal of the season Monday night. The goal occurred in the first period of the Maple Leafs 4-2 victory against the Buffalo Sabres.

 

Canadiens clinch Atlantic Division title

The Montreal Canadiens clinched the Atlantic Division title with their 4-1 victory against the Florida Panthers on Monday night. The win ended the Canadiens’ winless streak in Florida at 0-2-1, and was goalie Charlie Lindgren’s first victory since April 7, 2016.

 

Maple Leafs move into second place of Atlantic Division

The Toronto Maple Leafs moved into second place of the Atlantic Division with a 4-2 victory against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night. The win helped increase the Maple Leafs’ lead over the Ottawa Senators in the Atlantic Division, as the Senators lost to the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout Monday night.
