NHL Slap Shots: Crosby scores 1,000th point

Sidney Crosby recorded his 1,000th career point in the Penguins’ 4-3 overtime victory against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. The milestone point came off an assist from Chris Kunitz for a first-period goal. Crosby capped off the night by scoring the game-winner in overtime.

 

Penguins’ Maatta out six weeks

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta will be sidelined six weeks after hand surgery. Maatta had surgery on his left hand after injuring it in the Penguins’ 4-3 victory against the Winnipeg Jets.

 

Ducks’ Vermette banned 10 games

The Anaheim Ducks will be without center Antoine Vermette after the NHL handed him a 10-game suspension Thursday. Vermette hit linesman Shandor Alphonso in the back of the leg during the Ducks’ 1-0 victory against the Wild on Tuesday night. The NHLPA has already alerted the NHL that it, along with Vermette, will appeal the suspension.

 

Red Wings’ Nyquist suspended six games

Detroit forward Gustav Nyquist was given a six-game suspension for high sticking. The penalty took place this past weekend when Nyquist had a high sticking call that resulted in Minnesota Wild’s Jared Spurgeon being hit in the face.
