NHL Slap Shots: AHL fights down 20 percent

After years of staged fights, the AHL has had enough as it has implemented a new set of rules directly aimed at decreasing the amount of fights per game. The new rules will immediately effect players, including suspension once a player reaches 10 fights and other in game penalties as well.


Stalock signed to two-year extension

The Wild signed backup goalie Alex Stalock to a two-year extension. The move was made to help protect starting goalie Devan Dubnyk in the NHL’s upcoming expansion draft. Stalock has spent the entire season with the Wild’s AHL team, the Iowa Wild, and with this extension, he will be eligible for the expansion draft.


Red Wings looking to rebuild?

The season hasn’t gone the Red Wings’ way, as they currently sit sixth in the Atlantic Division with a 22-21-9 record. With the chances of keeping its 20-plus year playoff streak alive dwindling, maybe it’s time for Detroit to consider a total rebuild.


Wild expected to keep put before trade deadline

The Western Conference-leading Minnesota Wild have tough decisions to make leading up to the NHL trade deadline. The biggest decision is whether or not to go out and trade for a defensive center for the playoffs.
