Oklahoma State’s golf team has won 10 national championships and 54 conference championships. Some of the world’s best golfers, including Olympian Rickie Fowler, played on the prestigious team. This commitment to excellence is not restricted to the golf course.
OSU’s golf team also has one of the best tailgates on campus. The impressive set up is put on by golf alumni and their families and current OSU golfers are also free to enjoy the festivities.
Tailgater EJ Pfister won the 1988 Big Eight Championship during his senior year at OSU. Pfister was a three-time All-American. He shined on the golf course but also knows how to host a great tailgate. Pfister and his fellow golf alumni have been tailgating in the same spot since Boone Pickens Stadium was renovated eight years ago.
“It started as a couple of families and it’s turned into 60 or 70 people, all of which are past golfers at Oklahoma State,” Pfister said.
Pfister and his family love the atmosphere of game day in Stillwater and decided to join the golf team to create something special.
“Anyone that’s played golf here knows where we’re at and they come by,” Pfister said.
It is this bond between alum and current OSU golfers that keeps Pfister coming back each year.
Some of the newest additions to the tailgate include a 70-inch flat screen, along with five or six rows of lawn chairs underneath a giant tent that makes for a comfortable game day experience. The golf tailgate also has a giant smoker that cooked barbeque before the Cowboys’ 45-38 win against Pittsburgh on Saturday.
